The Manual for cultural event organizers is ready!
For the past months, the Count me In partnership has been working hard to prepare a new publication for cultural institutions & professionals across Europe to rethink how events, exhibitions, and museums are designed – placing accessibility for Deaf audiences at the very heart of cultural experiences.
What is it about?
The Manual for Cultural Organizers provides practical, actionable guidance on how to create inclusive cultural spaces where Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can fully participate. The message is clear: accessibility is not an optional addition when organizing events —it is a cultural right and a professional standard.
The manual highlights a major shift in perspective. Rather than adding accessibility features at the final stage, organizers are encouraged to embed them from the very beginning – through planning, budgeting, communication, and design. From sign language interpretation and captions to visual storytelling and thoughtful spatial design, accessibility becomes part of the creative process itself.
The guide also showcases innovative practices—from quiet exhibition openings and sign language-integrated performances to the use of technology such as QR codes, visual alerts, and digital tools that enhance independent access to content.
As the cultural sector continues to evolve, this initiative sends a strong message: the future of culture is inclusive, collaborative, and accessible to all.
The Manual is available in English, Polish, and Greek. Download it here
